Cape Town golf trip planner

A week of great golf, beautiful drives, and world-class food.

Cape Town is one of the great golf destinations in the southern hemisphere. Within roughly an hour of the city centre, you can play links-style layouts on the Atlantic, parkland classics under Table Mountain, and resort courses set against the Winelands. This guide is aimed at visiting golfers planning a five- to seven-day trip.

When to come

The best weather for golf in Cape Town runs from late September through April. Summer (December to February) is the busiest and windiest period — particularly on the Atlantic side — while March and April usually deliver the most settled conditions. Winter (June to August) brings cooler temperatures and regular rain, but green fees are lower and courses are quieter.

A suggested 5-day itinerary

  1. Day 1 — Southern Peninsula. Ease in at Clovelly Golf Course, a scenic layout tucked into the mountains above False Bay.
  2. Day 2 — Constantia parkland. Play Steenberg Golf Club or Westlake Golf Club, then head to a Constantia estate for a wine tasting.
  3. Day 3 — City classics. Royal Cape Golf Club, the oldest club in South Africa, is a must-play for history-minded travellers.
  4. Day 4 — Atlantic links. Tee off early at Milnerton Golf Club or Atlantic Beach Golf Club before the southeaster builds.
  5. Day 5 — Winelands day trip. Drive out to Pearl Valley or De Zalze for a signature round in the Winelands.

Getting around

A hire car is by far the easiest option. Distances between courses are modest (20–60 minutes within the city, about an hour out to the Winelands), but public transport to clubs is limited. If you'd rather not drive, pre-booked transfers or ride-hailing apps work well for single-course days.

Booking tips

Book tee times three to four weeks out for the summer peak. Many clubs welcome visitors with a handicap certificate; a few prefer you play alongside a member or through a hotel. Green fees for visitors typically run from roughly R600 at municipal tracks to R2,500+ at resort courses, with twilight rates offering solid savings.

What to pack

Layers. Cape Town can deliver four seasons in a day, particularly in shoulder months. A light windproof, sunblock, and a hat you can cinch down are essentials — the "Cape Doctor" southeaster is no joke on exposed links holes.
